Huntly Water Treatment Plant Sludge Settlement Lagoon
- Thames Coromandel District Council
- Opus International Consultants
- $1.36 million
Project Scope:
This project involved the construction of a system to divert sludge produced at the Huntly Water Treatment Plant, to flocculate and thicken the sludge by settling, and then to pump it to a sludge bagging machine for dewatering.
The contract involved construction of a 12 metre square sheet piled settling tank with a 2.5 metre deep sloping concrete floor. A caisson type sludge storage chamber/pump station was then installed adjacent to the settling tank. These two new structures and the five existing plant clarifiers were connected through a network of new PE pipelines, manholes and PVC pipe drain lines. A new baghouse building was constructed to house a proprietary bagging machine which was imported from Italy. Additional mechanical installation included installing a new sludge pump and control valving equipment. Installation of electrical equipment and PLC programming to operate and integrate the new equipment into the existing water treatment plant was completed in the final phase of this project.
