Project Scope: This project involved the upgrade of two wastewater treatment oxidation ponds. Work in the primary settlement pond involved the installation of 3 baffle curtains to direct incoming effluent flow in a W shaped direction longitudinally in the pond, with effluent then conveyed into the oxidation pond via a transfer pipe penetrating the bund between the ponds.
The oxidation pond work involved the installation of fibreglass air headers on top of the wavebands on each side of the pond to feed rows of aeration lines running across the bottom of the pond. Surface floating Aquamats supported via a series of tension cables anchored at the embankments were then installed together with a new outlet weir and jetty.
Upgrades to the existing operations room included rearranging the existing wet well pumps, installation of 3 new blowers and outlet manifold to the air header pipes, installation of a ventilation system, new potable water system and recycled washdown water system. Existing doors were replaced with new acoustic doors, and the building repainting inside and out.
Electrical upgrades included a new MCC with field instrumentation, a PLC and telemetry system. The building lighting and power points were upgraded also.
A new rock outfall filter was also designed and installed to meet the plant’s Resource Consent conditions for discharge to the neighbouring stream.
A new ring road providing access around the membrane plant was also included in this project.
